HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was born January 15,
3 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Throughout his life, he worked to ensure that all
5 people were given the opportunity to follow their dreams,
6 regardless of their race or station in life; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Dr. King won the Nobel Peace Prize on December 10,
8 1964, in response to his diligent efforts to racially integrate
9 the nation through peaceful means; and
 
10     WHEREAS, School children continue to learn from Dr. King as
11 they read and study his "I Have A Dream" speech that was given
12 during the March on Washington on August 28, 1963; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Dr. King's aspirations for a color blind society
14 detailed in that speech inspire all citizens to live together
15 with mutual respect and understanding; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Leaders look to the example that Dr. King
17 established when evaluating what can be done to improve human
18 rights here and abroad; therefore, be it
 
19     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
21 commemorate the 75th birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on
22 January 15, 2004, in the State of Illinois; and be it further
 
23     RESOLVED, That the State of Illinois joins the nation in
24 celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on January
25 19, 2004.
