| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Dr. Dorothy Weber |
| 4 |
| on the occasion of her retirement as superintendent of District |
| 5 |
| 34 after 34 years as an educator; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Weber has served as a superintendent for 13 |
| 7 |
| years and has been with District 34 for 5 years; she was named |
| 8 |
| 1997 Illinois Superintendent of the Year; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, During Dr. Weber's tenure with District 34, there |
| 10 |
| have been a number of notable accomplishments, including the |
| 11 |
| passage of a referendum to build Attea Middle School; the |
| 12 |
| ratification of a 4-year agreement between the Board of |
| 13 |
| Education and the teachers; the District's renewed emphasis on |
| 14 |
| reconnecting with the community; the renewal of the Glenview |
| 15 |
| Education Foundation; the infusion of technology in the |
| 16 |
| District, including phones in every classroom; increased |
| 17 |
| student safety and security measures, including staff and |
| 18 |
| student identification badges; budget reductions and |
| 19 |
| efficiencies that total more than $2,000,000; an increase in |
| 20 |
| student assessment and accountability; and a complete |
| 21 |
| assessment of the English as a Second Language, Clinical Model, |
| 22 |
| and mentoring programs; she oversaw the addition of a formal |
| 23 |
| gifted program, a preschool at risk program, and the updating |
| 24 |
| of curricula for physical education, social studies, science, |
| 25 |
| math, and spelling; and
|
| 26 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Weber brought to District 34 the ability to |
| 27 |
| heal both internal and external rifts as well as move the |
| 28 |
| District forward in its mission of educating every child; |
| 29 |
