| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Sheriff Larry N. |
| 4 |
| Smith of Greenview on being elected President of the Illinois |
| 5 |
| Sheriffs' Association; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Sheriff Smith was born on August 25, 1954 to Bryce |
| 7 |
| N. and Joy L. Smith; he graduated from Greenview High School in |
| 8 |
| 1972 and was valedictorian of his class; he received a B.S. in |
| 9 |
| chemistry in 1976 from Upper Iowa University; he married |
| 10 |
| Deborah on June 26, 1976; he is a lifelong resident of Menard |
| 11 |
| County; he, Deborah, and their daughter, Andrea, live on the |
| 12 |
| family farm near Greenview; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Sheriff Smith worked for MAPCO, Inc. in |
| 14 |
| Agricultural Chemical Sales from 1976 to 1984 and was Chemical |
| 15 |
| Sales Manager from 1980 to 1984; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, In 1985, Sheriff Smith began his law enforcement |
| 17 |
| career as Deputy Sheriff in the Menard County Sheriff's Office; |
| 18 |
| he graduated from the Police Training Institute at the |
| 19 |
| University of Illinois in 1988; he received training in the |
| 20 |
| basic law enforcement course and received the Ervin H. Warren |
| 21 |
| Award for Excellence and the Scholastic Award for the |
| 22 |
| highest-class score; and
|
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, In 1990, Sheriff Smith was elected Menard County |
| 24 |
| Sheriff; he was re-elected in 1994, 1998, and 2002; he has been |
| 25 |
| active in the Illinois Sheriffs' Association since 1990, and, |
| 26 |
| in 1995, he was elected to the organization's Executive Board; |
| 27 |
| therefore, be it
