| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives wish to
recognize Clifton Herford of Chicago |
| 4 |
| who will be celebrating his 105th birthday
on May 1,
2004; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Herford was born in 1899 in Huntsville, |
| 6 |
| Alabama; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Herford moved from Alabama to Chicago as a |
| 8 |
| young man and was
employed by Benefield Glass Company, where he |
| 9 |
| worked for over 30 years; he
was married to the late Eleanor |
| 10 |
| for over 40 years; together, they raised 4 children and one |
| 11 |
| step-son,
Ada Ford, James Benson, Leonard Newman, Berniece |
| 12 |
| Herford, and James Benton; he has one sister, Bernice; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Herford has witnessed amazing changes in |
| 14 |
| technology throughout
his life; most of all, he remembers being |
| 15 |
| a young boy and "walking down the
road
often, there were no |
| 16 |
| lights and the only way to see was light from lightening
|
| 17 |
| bugs."; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Herford is an active member of the Park Manor |
| 19 |
| Neighbors
Community Organization and a member of Park Manor |
| 20 |
| Christian Church; he retired
as the church custodian when he |
| 21 |
| was 97 years of age; also, he is a former
member of the African |
| 22 |
| American League of Alabama; therefore, be it
|
| 23 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 24 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 25 |
| recognize Clifton Herford on the occasion of his 105th birthday |
| 26 |
| and wish him good health and happiness in all of his future |
| 27 |
| endeavors; and be it further
|
| 28 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 29 |
| presented to Clifton
Herford.
