 1        AN ACT in relation to taxes.

 2        Be it enacted by the People of  the  State  of  Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section  5.   The  Tax  Collection Suit Act is amended by
 5    changing Section 1 as follows:

 6        (35 ILCS 705/1) (from Ch. 120, par. 881)
 7        Sec. 1. At the request of any officer or  agency  charged
 8    with the responsibility of collecting any tax that is imposed
 9    by  this State or that is collectible by this State on behalf
10    of a political subdivision thereof, the Attorney  General  of
11    this State shall may bring suit, in the name of this State or
12    in the name of the officer or agency on whose behalf the suit
13    is  brought,  in the appropriate court of any other state, to
14    collect any tax legally due to this State or to the political
15    subdivision  on  whose  behalf  this  State  is  required  or
16    authorized  to  act  as  a  tax  collector.   Any   political
17    subdivision of this State or the appropriate officer thereof,
18    acting in its behalf, may bring suit in the appropriate court
19    of  any  other  state  to collect any tax legally due to such
20    political subdivision.

22        Section 99.  Effective date.  This Act takes effect  upon
23    becoming law.
