 1        AN ACT regarding schools.

 2        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section 5.  The School Code is amended by adding  Section
 5    2-3.25o as follows:

 6        (105 ILCS 5/2-3.25o new)
 7        Sec.  2-3.25o.  Recognition  of  non-public  schools. The
 8    State Board of Education shall provide for the recognition of
 9    non-public schools by regional  superintendents  of  schools.
10    Recognition  of  non-public schools in an educational service
11    region where the office of regional superintendent of schools
12    has been abolished shall be performed by the State  Board  of
13    Education.  The  State  Board  of Education shall adopt rules
14    with regard to the standards that a  non-public  school  must
15    meet  to receive recognition and any other rules necessary to
16    implement this Section.

17        Section 99.  Effective date. This Act takes  effect  upon
18    becoming law.
