SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, State Senator Stanley B. Weaver devoted nearly 45
3 years of his life to public service; he served as Mayor of
4 Urbana from May 1957 to January 1969, and in the Illinois
5 Senate from 1970 to 2002, after one term in the House of
6 Representatives; and
 
7     WHEREAS, He was named to the newly-created position of
8 Senate Majority Leader in 1997, after serving as Assistant
9 Senate Leader for 22 years; as a lawmaker, Stan's priorities
10 were always those of the people he represented - quality
11 education, agriculture, economic development, and
12 conservation; and
 
13     WHEREAS, When Senator Weaver rose to speak in the Senate,
14 people recognized his command of the issues - and listened; he
15 was held in the highest esteem by his colleagues and
16 constituents from both political parties; he was the
17 unquestioned dean of the Illinois Senate; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Interstate Highway 74 provides an essential
19 transportation corridor between Champaign and Bloomington and
20 other parts of East-Central Illinois; and
 
21     WHEREAS, We wish to permanently commemorate Stan Weaver's
22 lasting role in the Illinois General Assembly and his abiding
23 impact on the lives of the people of Illinois; therefore, be it
 
24     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
25 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
26 CONCURRING HEREIN, that the portion of Interstate Highway 74
27 commencing at its intersection with Interstate 57 at Champaign
28 and ending with its intersection with US Route 51 near
29 Bloomington be designated the Stanley B. Weaver Memorial
30 Highway; and be it further

1     RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
2 presented to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of
3 Transportation, the Secretary of the Illinois Department of
4 Transportation, and the family of Stanley B. Weaver.
