1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of
3 Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of Agnes Marie
4 "Gitsie" O'Dwyer of Aurora on Sunday, May 11, 2003; and
5 WHEREAS, Mrs. O'Dwyer was born Agnes Marie Burns on
6 November 3, 1927 to Richard Owen Burns and Agnes Marie
7 (Picard) Burns; she married John P. O'Dwyer; and
8 WHEREAS, Mrs. O'Dwyer's childhood nickname, "Gitsie"
9 stayed with her throughout her life; during her youth, she
10 enjoyed horseback riding, tending animals, hunting, and
11 gardening at her family's recreational farm located outside
12 of Somonauk; she enjoyed swimming, water skiing, and fishing
13 at the family cottage in Eagle River, Wisconsin; her entire
14 life was centered around big family activities to be shared
15 among parents, brothers, nieces, nephews, cousins, and her
16 own children and friends; and
17 WHEREAS, Mrs. O'Dwyer earned her bachelor's degree in
18 education from Barat College and attended classes at the Art
19 Institute of Chicago; she worked as a school teacher in
20 Aurora and Park Ridge and was a homemaker in Evanston; she
21 also worked as a retail associate at Marshall Field's in
22 Evanston and Skokie; and
23 WHEREAS, Gitsie was a gifted student artist and young
24 school teacher; she was an excellent mother, always
25 challenging her children with arts, activities, and
26 education; she attended mass daily anywhere she traveled and
27 instilled her Catholic virtues in her children; and
28 WHEREAS, The passing of Agnes Marie "Gitsie" O'Dwyer has
29 been deeply felt by many, especially her husband, John P.;
30 her children, John P. Jr. (Nora), Colleen M. Knight (Gary),
31 Brian R. (Susan), James D. (Anna), Caroline A. Perullo

1 (David), Laura M. Cienkus (Keith), Richard K. (Linda), and B.
2 Kathleen Watts (Greg); her grandchildren, Kelly, Katherine,
3 Steve, and Brian Knight, Sydney, Amanda, and Griffin O'Dwyer,
4 Patrick O'Dwyer, Maria, Christine, Erin, and David Perullo,
5 and Georgia and Everett Cienkus; and her brothers, Richard
6 Owen Burns, Jr. M.D. (Mary) and Robert Napoleon Burns
7 (Maureen); she was the dear sister-in-law of Mary C. O'Dwyer,
8 Joanne O'Dwyer (Francis, deceased), Mary K. O'Dwyer (William,
9 deceased), and Ruth O'Dwyer (Dennis, deceased); therefore, be
10 it
11 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
12 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing
13 of Agnes Marie "Gitsie" O'Dwyer and we extend to her family
14 and friends our deepest sympathy; and be it further
15 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to the family of Agnes Marie "Gitsie" O'Dwyer as an
17 expression of our sincere condolences.
