1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of
3 Illinois learned with regret of the death of Nelma Faye Brown
4 Moody on July 21, 2003; and
5 WHEREAS, Mrs. Moody was born on February 7, 1943 in
6 Laurel, Mississippi, to Marie Brown and Leroy Allen; she
7 attended Alcorn University in Lorman, Mississippi; State
8 Community College in East St. Louis; and Southern Illinois
9 University in Carbondale; she married John E. Moody; and
10 WHEREAS, Mrs. Moody worked as a meat processor at a
11 leading food store, as a cashier at Red Fox Grocery Store, in
12 Cahokia/Belleville Headstart Centers, and finally as Director
13 of Helen Davis Headstart Center at SIU-E; and
14 WHEREAS, Mrs. Moody was active in several civic and
15 social organizations, including Order of Eastern Star #68;
16 she served as the Deputy Grand Matron of Ways and Means; she
17 was a former Civil Rights Commissioner, former president of
18 the Lincoln High P.T.A., former president of Assumption High
19 School P.T.A, former Alderman Commissioner, former board
20 member of the N.A.A.C.P., a former member of the East St.
21 Louis Women's Club, and a former member of the Urban League;
22 and
23 WHEREAS, Mrs. Moody was affiliated with the National
24 Black Child Development Institution, Big Brother/Big Sister
25 of St. Clair County, Illinois Headstart Association, and
26 Alumni of Southern Illinois University - Carbondale;
27 throughout her life, she attended First Allen A.M.E. in
28 Laurel, Mississippi, and St. Luke A.M.E. in East St. Louis,
29 where she was a member of the Senior Angelic Choir, a former
30 president of the St. Luke Usher Board, and a former
31 supervisor of the Youth Choir; and

1 WHEREAS, Mrs. Moody was a positive influence on the lives
2 of many people, especially young people; her passing has been
3 deeply felt by many, especially her husband, John E. Moody;
4 her children, Darryl Charles Dennis (Angie) Moody, John
5 Eldred (Debra) Moody, and Akila Aundranette (Jerry) Moody;
6 her mother, Marie Brown White; her father, Leroy Allen; her
7 sisters, Patricia McGee, Gwen Rogers, and Bantrina Coe; her
8 brother, Leon Allen; her grandchildren, Dominique, Charity,
9 Janelle, Danielle, Eldric, and Kayla Moody; her
10 father-in-law, John H. Moody; her sisters-in-law and
11 brothers-in-law; her special friends, Vivian Hannah and
12 Dorothy Morrison; her Godsons, Michael Graves and Freddie R.
13 Holmes; and her many nephews, nieces, and other relatives and
14 friends; her daughter, Donna Charity Denise, preceded her in
15 death; therefore, be it
16 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
17 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing
18 of Mrs. Nelma Faye Brown Moody and extend our sincerest
19 condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and
20 loved her; and be it further
21 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22 presented to the family of Mrs. Moody as an expression of our
23 deepest sympathy.
