SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois were saddened to learn of the passing of Michael Steven Johnson on Tuesday, November 11, 2003; and

WHEREAS, Michael Steven Johnson was born in Los Angeles, California to parents, Rayfield and Clairece Watkins; and

WHEREAS, Michael Steven Johnson joined the United States Air Force after graduating from Wendell Phillips High School; and

WHEREAS, Michael Steven Johnson continued his education after being discharged, earning an Associate's Degree in Mathematics from Kennedy-King College; and

WHEREAS, Michael Steven Johnson had a charismatic personality, infectious smile, and was a "people person" who was affectionately known as "Mike" or "Papa Mike" by his grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Michael Steven Johnson was married to Willia Pope for twenty-six years; he was the father to two daughters from his previous marriage and the father of a son from his second union; and

WHEREAS, Michael Steven Johnson's passing will be deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Willia; his two daughters and son-in-law, Alderman Latasha Thomas and her husband, Timothy Jr., and Teresa Johnson; his son, Justin; his three grandchildren, Victoria, Timothy III, and Christian Jaelen; his godson, Romulus Jackson; his two sisters and brother-in-law, Imani Kali Nyah and Lametrice Bush and her husband, Kirk; his brother, Rayfield Watkins, Jr.; his two special aunts, Ora D. Frenchwood and Betty Woodward; his mother-in-law, Emma Pope; his five sisters-in-law; his three brothers-in-law; his three special cousins, Johnny L. Robinson, Earle Deloach, and Thomas Gosha; his two special friends, Lionel Walker and Milford Hackett; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and family; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Michael Steven Johnson along with all who knew and loved him and extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Michael Steven Johnson as an expression of our sorrow for their loss.
