SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 were saddened to learn of the passing of Michael Steven Johnson
4 on Tuesday, November 11, 2003; and
 
5      WHEREAS, Michael Steven Johnson was born in Los Angeles,
6 California to parents, Rayfield and Clairece Watkins; and
 
7      WHEREAS, Michael Steven Johnson joined the United States
8 Air Force after graduating from Wendell Phillips High School;
9 and
 
10      WHEREAS, Michael Steven Johnson continued his education
11 after being discharged, earning an Associate's Degree in
12 Mathematics from Kennedy-King College; and
 
13      WHEREAS, Michael Steven Johnson had a charismatic
14 personality, infectious smile, and was a "people person" who
15 was affectionately known as "Mike" or "Papa Mike" by his
16 grandchildren; and
 
17      WHEREAS, Michael Steven Johnson was married to Willia Pope
18 for twenty-six years; he was the father to two daughters from
19 his previous marriage and the father of a son from his second
20 union; and
 
21      WHEREAS, Michael Steven Johnson's passing will be deeply
22 felt by many, especially his wife, Willia; his two daughters
23 and son-in-law, Alderman Latasha Thomas and her husband,
24 Timothy Jr., and Teresa Johnson; his son, Justin; his three
25 grandchildren, Victoria, Timothy III, and Christian Jaelen;
26 his godson, Romulus Jackson; his two sisters and
27 brother-in-law, Imani Kali Nyah and Lametrice Bush and her
28 husband, Kirk; his brother, Rayfield Watkins, Jr.; his two
29 special aunts, Ora D. Frenchwood and Betty Woodward; his

1 mother-in-law, Emma Pope; his five sisters-in-law; his three
2 brothers-in-law; his three special cousins, Johnny L.
3 Robinson, Earle Deloach, and Thomas Gosha; his two special
4 friends, Lionel Walker and Milford Hackett; and numerous
5 nieces, nephews, friends, and family; therefore, be it
 
6      RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
7 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8 Michael Steven Johnson along with all who knew and loved him
9 and extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends;
10 and be it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to the family of Michael Steven Johnson as an
13 expression of our sorrow for their loss.
