SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of John E. "Eddie" Shevlin of Sorento on Friday, January 23, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Shevlin was born January 3, 1917, in East St. Louis to William E. and Katie, nee Fitzgearl, Shevlin; he valiantly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Shevlin was an assistant business agent from 1959 to 1968 and a business agent from 1968 to 1978 for Laborers Local 100, where he had been a member since 1936; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Shevlin was a member of the Salvation Army for 50 years; a former member of St. Phillip Catholic Church, East St. Louis; and a member of the Knights of Columbus 592, East St. Louis, for 50 years; and

WHEREAS, The passing of John E. "Eddie" Shevlin has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Dorothy, nee Birchler, Shevlin; his children, Ronald (Kathi) Shevlin, Joyce (Bill) Halcomb, Dennis Shevlin, and Bruce (Sue) Shevlin; his grandchildren, Kimberly Shevlin, Scott (Terri) Shevlin, Carol Reckamp, Rich Reckamp, Matt (Debbie) Reckamp, Brad (Tina) Reckamp, Julie Shevlin, Mark Shevlin, and John, Bret, and Katie Shevlin; his great-grandchildren, James, Brian, Briana, and Autumn; his brothers, Joseph (Till) Shevlin, Thomas (Bonnie) Shevlin, and George P. (Dolores) Shevlin; and his sisters, Virginia Pruett and Gertrude (Joe) Caldwell; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of John E. "Eddie" Shevlin, and we extend our sincerest condolences to his friends, family, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John E. "Eddie" Shevlin as an expression of our deepest sympathy for their loss.
