SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of William Joseph "Bill" Fine of Alton on Thursday, April 8, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Fine was born on February 11, 1929, in Mexico, Missouri, to Henry C. and Ida Pearl (Whitley) Fine; he graduated from high school in 1948 in Mexico, Missouri; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Fine valiantly served his country as a corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War; he married the former Evelyn Marie Hardy on February 13, 1953, and they recently celebrated 51 years of marriage; they lived for many years in Granite City before moving to Alton to join the family business, Fine-Burke-Staten Funeral Homes, where he assisted his son, Brian, for the last 12 years; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Fine was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Alton, Veterans of Foreign Wars Alton Post 1308, and Teamsters Union Local 971; he will be remembered as a dedicated father, grandfather, and friend to many who respected him for his work ethic and many dedications; and

WHEREAS, The passing of William Joseph "Bill" Fine has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Evelyn Marie; his sons, Bradley H. (Karen) Fine, Brian S. (Nancy) Fine, and Michael D. Fine; his daughter, Debra Jo (Franklin A.) Hollis; his grandchildren, U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Chet (April) Fine, Kyle Fine, Andy Fine, William Julian Fine, Maggie Noelle Fine, Angela Hollis, and Ben (Amy Doucleff) Hollis; his great-grandchildren, Chance Fine, Cherady Fine, and Catherine Rose Hollis; his brothers, James B. (Sandy) Fine and Richard (Nobe) Fine; his sister, Ruth Johnson; his brothers-in-law, James Neely and Richard (Brenda) Brewer; his sister-in-law, Shirley Hardy; and his many nieces, nephews, other extended family, and many dear friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of William Joseph "Bill" Fine, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of William Joseph "Bill" Fine as an expression of our sincere condolences.
