SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of the Honorable C. Glenn "Owlie" Stevens of Belleville on May 18, 2004; and

WHEREAS, C. Glenn "Owlie" Stevens was born on October 29, 1941, in Rockford to Dr. Robert W. and Mary Louise (nee Shaughnessy) Stevens; his parents preceded him in death; and

WHEREAS, He graduated from St. Louis University High School; he then received a Bachelor of Science and a Juris doctorate from St. Louis University; he was admitted to the Illinois and Missouri Bar in 1966, and clerked for Honorable Omar Poos of the United States District court; he was an instructor at Saint Louis University Law School, a partner with Pope & Driemeyer in Belleville, and an associate circuit judge with St. Clair County for many years; and

WHEREAS, He was a member of the Illinois Judges Association, the Illinois Bar Association, the St. Clair County Bar Association, and the Missouri Bar Association; in 1965, he served as president of Phi Delta Phi, the International Legal Fraternity; he was a veteran of the United States Army and was included in Who's Who in America; and

WHEREAS, He was very proud of his family, his accomplishments, and his Irish heritage; he never knew a stranger; and

WHEREAS, The passing of the Honorable C. Glenn "Owlie" Stevens will be deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Suzie Stevens (nee Corkey); his son, Robert W. (Roberta) Stevens; his daughter, Angela M. (dear friend Derek) Stevens; his three grandchildren, Melinda Wade, Matt Wade, and Cameron Hatfield; his great-grandchild, Skyler Wade; his five sisters, Edna Stevens, Peggy Stevens, Mary Lou (Don) Wilson, Esther (Ray) Breiding, and Fes (Frannie Wenzel) Stevens; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of the Honorable C. Glenn "Owlie" Stevens along with all who knew and loved him and extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable C. Glenn "Owlie" Stevens as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
