SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Charles Aronin Lippitz of Evanston on July 1, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Charles Aronin Lippitz was born on September 18, 1926, in Chicago; he received a bachelor's degree from the University of Chicago and a law degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 1951; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Lippitz's professional accomplishments began with a career in tax, estate planning, and trust law; he was a partner in Levenfeld, Kanter, Baskes, and Lippitz; he served as president of the Federal Bar Association (7th Circuit) for many years and maintained a leadership position on the Chicago Committee to Defend the Bill of Rights; and

WHEREAS, In 1986, Mr. Lippitz left the practice of law to become a film producer, winning the award for Best Family Film at the 1994 Santa Clarita International Film Festival for his feature "Season of Change"; he also worked with Zev Braun, a West Coast film producer, on various film projects; in 1995, Mr. Lippitz won an Emmy Award as executive producer of the PBS television documentary, "Frank Yankovic: America's Polka King"; he also served as vice president and a producer of "Enter Here," a nationally distributed vocational videotape series for high school students; and

WHEREAS, More recently, Mr. Lippitz wrote plays, acted, co-chaired Northlight Theatre's Open Door Ensemble, and served as co-vice president of The Shakespeare Project of Chicago; his play "Different Music" was performed at Circle Theatre's New Plays Festival 2003; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Lippitz was very active in the Evanston Fourth of July Association; in 1983, he served as celebration manager of the association, having served as fireworks chairman for several years; and

WHEREAS, One of Mr. Lippitz's great joys was guiding and mentoring young people seeking to make their mark in the world; he passed on his passion and love for the arts to his children; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Charles Aronin Lippitz will be deeply felt by many, especially his wife of 53 years, Rhita; his daughters, Erica "Riki" Lippitz (John Schechter) and Lori Lippitz (Marc) Chinitz; his son, Michael (Susan); his grandchildren, Robin, Anna, Marc, Gabriel, Eliana, Lev, and Kayla; his sister, Shari (Herbert) Rosen; and his extended family members; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Charles Aronin Lippitz along with all who knew and loved him and extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Charles Aronin Lippitz as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
