SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, It is with deep regret that the members of the
3 Illinois Senate learned of the death in Iraq of U.S. Army
4 Private First Class Collier E. Barcus of McHenry on Thursday,
5 July 8, 2004; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Collier Edwin Barcus was born on June 14, 1983 to
7 Sandy Barcus and Greg Barcus; he finished high school on a
8 Wyoming ranch, where he was home schooled and learned ranching
9 skills; he had hoped to return to Wyoming someday to own his
10 own ranch; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Private First Class Barcus enlisted in the U.S.
12 Army on September 11, 2001 because he wanted to do something to
13 help his country; he followed in the footsteps of his brother,
14 serving as a sniper; and
 
15     WHEREAS, He had been serving in Iraq in support of
16 Operation Iraqi Freedom and lost his life when a sport utility
17 vehicle rigged with a bomb drove into the headquarters shared
18 by U.S. Forces and the Iraqi National Guard allies; after the
19 bomb exploded, insurgents launched 38 mortars at the building;
20 he had previously been rendered partially deaf by a nearby
21 bombing and had the option to return home, but chose to remain
22 in Iraq, committed to making the Iraqi people free; and
 
23     WHEREAS, Private First Class Barcus was a member of the
24 United States Army, serving in the 1st Battalion, 26th
25 Infantry, 1st Infantry Division; he planned on re-enlisting
26 when his tour was scheduled to end in October of 2005; and
 
27     WHEREAS, The passing of Private First Class Collier Edwin
28 Barcus has been deeply felt by many, especially his mother,
29 Sandy Barcus; his father, Greg Barcus; his brother, Micah; his
30 sister, Jessa; his grandmother, Yvonne Barcus; his many loving

1 aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and comrades; therefore, be it
 
2     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
3 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
4 U.S. Army Private First Class Collier E. Barcus, and we extend
5 our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew
6 and loved him; and be it further
 
7     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Private First Class
8 Barcus and his willingness to serve his country which led to
9 him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
10     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to the family of U.S. Army Private First Class
12 Collier E. Barcus as an expression of our sincerest
13 condolences.
