SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Mildred Christensen on August 14, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Mildred was born on a farm in Libertyville on October 6, 1921 to Joseph and Kazmira Balonis; she graduated from Waukegan High School in 1939; she worked at the Ship Service Department at Great Lakes Naval Training Center in the 1940s; she was a volunteer for the Red Cross during World War II; and

WHEREAS, On April 30, 1947, she married John Christensen, a Purple Heart veteran; they had four children; and

WHEREAS, She worked for over 30 years for Waukegan Township and Lake County; from 1950 to 1963, she worked for various offices, including the Board of Review, Supervisor of Assessments, and the Lake County Treasurer's office; in 1963, she worked for the Waukegan Township Assessor's Office as a secretary for Francis "Pat" Corrigan and, in 1973, the Waukegan Township Board appointed her "First Woman" as assessor to finish the term of Pat Corrigan; in 1974, she worked for the Lake County Treasurer's Office and she retired in 1983; and

WHEREAS, After retiring, Mildred was a volunteer worker for Meals on Wheels; she enjoyed spending her retirement with her family and friends; she especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband, John Christensen, who passed away in 1998, and by her son, John Christensen, Jr., who passed away in 1982; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Mildred Christensen will be felt by all who knew and loved her, especially her son, Carl Christensen; her daughters, Sue (Gerald) Rasmussen and Kathy Meyer; and her grandchildren, Kari, Mike, Eric, and Michelle; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with all who knew and loved her, the death of Mildred Christensen; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mildred Christensen as an expression of our sincere condolences.
