SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Robert Irl Blackford of Alton died on November 16, 2004; and

WHEREAS, He was born January 22, 1924 in Dennis, Kentucky, to Robert Wyatt and Effie (Ragar) Blackford; and

WHEREAS, He married the former Ollie Mae Jenkins in Tarpon Springs, Florida on April 5, 1942; and

WHEREAS, He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army from 1942 to 1945; a carpenter for Jun Construction, he retired in 1986 after 20 years of service; after his retirement, he was a painter, handyman, and carpenter; a member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1946, he later joined Alton First Southern Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and a member of the choir; he played the guitar, piano, and bass, and was noted for his wonderful sense of humor; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his wife and parents; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Robert Blackford will be felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his sons, Lindell (Sandra) Blackford and Rick (Cheryl) Blackford; his grandchildren; his great-grandchildren; and his brother, Irvin Morgan; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Robert Irl Blackford and we extend to his family our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
