SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with sadness of the death of Rabbi Irving P. Glickman
4 on Thursday, December 2, 2004; and
 
5     WHEREAS, A native of Chicago's South Side, Rabbi Glickman
6 earned a bachelor's degree in history and mathematics from
7 Roosevelt University in 1952, a bachelor's degree in Hebrew
8 literature in 1955, and rabbinical ordination in 1957 from
9 Chicago's Hebrew Theological College; he was a member of the
10 Rabbinical Council of America; and
 
11     WHEREAS, His first rabbinical position was in Maywood;
12 after that, he served congregations all over the continent,
13 including Galveston, Texas; Winnipeg, Manitoba; and
14 Louisville, Kentucky; before returning to Chicago, where he had
15 served the Orthodox A.G. Beth Israel Congregation since 1987;
16 he also served on many boards and committees, including as
17 president of the Chicago Board of Rabbis, as vice president of
18 the Chicago Rabbinical Council, and as a member of the Jewish
19 Community Relations Committee of the Jewish United Fund; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Rabbi Glickman was a very conscientious and
21 effective representative of the Jewish community to the
22 non-Jewish community; he was dedicated to serving people; when
23 he faced a situation he felt was unjust, he spoke up - and
24 people listened; and
 
25     WHEREAS, The passing of Rabbi Glickman has been deeply felt
26 by many, especially his wife of nearly 50 years, Lee; his
27 daughters, Linda Glickman Kirshner, Ronna Sharp, Debbie Cash,
28 and Lori Meystel; his sons, Rick Glickman and David Glickman;
29 his sister, Beata Rothner; his 26 grandchildren; and his one
30 great-grandchild; therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3 Rabbi Irving P. Glickman, and we extend our deepest sympathy to
4 his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
5 further
 
6     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7 presented to his family as an expression of our sincere
8 condolences.
