HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Ken Leonard on the occasion of his retirement as head coach of the Sacred Heart-Griffin (SHG) High School football team, the Cyclones, at the end of the 2022 season; and

WHEREAS, Coach Leonard has been coaching football since 1980; over his 42 seasons as a football coach, he has achieved an overall record of 419-81; and

WHEREAS, Coach Leonard has served as head coach of the SHG Cyclones in Springfield since 1984; while coaching at SHG, he has achieved an overall record of 387-72; and

WHEREAS, During his tenure, Coach Leonard has led his team to 11 state championships, achieving victories in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2013, 2014, and 2022; he has also led his team to four additional title-game appearances; and

WHEREAS, In his last season, Coach Leonard successfully led his team to the state championship game one more time; and

WHEREAS, Outside his work on the field, Coach Leonard served as the athletic director of SHG; and

WHEREAS, Coach Leonard, known affectionately as "Mr. SHG", will retire as the all-time winningest football coach in Illinois High School Association history; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Ken Leonard on his retirement as head coach of the Sacred Heart-Griffin (SHG) High School football team, the Cyclones, recognize his years of service and dedication to the team, and wish him the best in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Ken Leonard as an expression of our esteem and respect.
