HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to commend their colleague, Representative Tom Morrison, on the occasion of his retirement as State Representative of the 54th District; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Morrison is a former small business owner in the field of residential and commercial disaster cleanup and restoration; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Morrison is a proud graduate of Hillsdale College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Morrison was elected as a state representative from Illinois' 54th District in 2011; he served the people of portions of Palatine, Inverness, Rolling Meadows, Hoffman Estates, Arlington Heights, and Schaumburg; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Morrison served on the Appropriations-General Service Committee as the Republican spokesperson, the Personnel & Pensions Committee, the Insurance Committee, the Elementary and Second Education: Administration, Licensing & Charter Schools Committee as the Republican spokesperson, the Energy & Environment Committee, the Human Services Committee, the Special Issues Subcommittee (ESE), the Local Retirement System Subcommittee, the Miscellaneous Issues Subcommittee, the Pension Reform Subcommittee, and the Property Tax Relief Task Force; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Morrison was selected to the Council of State Government's Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development program in 2011 and the inaugural class of the Edgar Fellows Program in 2012; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Morrison was one of the first of many Illinois legislators to entirely opt-out of the State's pension systems; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Morrison is a former fifth grade teacher at Christian Liberty Academy, where he served for six years, and a former radio news broadcaster; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Morrison has supported and has spoken at meetings for Avenues to Independence, a non-profit, charitable organization that supports over 200 individuals with autism, cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, and other intellectual, physical, and developmental disabilities; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Morrison has held a "Baby Closet Drive" annually in his district to collect necessary supplies for families in need; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Morrison was named as a Champion of Free Enterprise by the Illinois Chamber of Commerce in 2020; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Morrison was named as a Friend of Manufacturing in 2018 for his support of the Illinois manufacturing and business community; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Morrison is the proud husband of his wife Bethany and proud father to their four children; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend Representative Tom Morrison on his distinguished service as State Representative of the 54th District and wish him all the best in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Representative Morrison as a symbol of our esteem and respect for our colleague and friend.
