HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the 2022 Mount Carmel High School girls golf team, the Lady Aces, on winning the 2022 IHSA Class 1A Girls Golf State Championship; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Aces won the two day tournament, held at Red Tail Run in Decatur, with a team score of 600, beating second place Boylan Catholic High School by 35 strokes; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Aces set the IHSA State Record for Class 1A Girls Golf Teams with a team score of 600, breaking their own record from the previous year of 604; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Aces had a 2022 season record of 69-0; the team won back to back championships in 2021 and 2022 with two perfect seasons and a combined record of 147-0; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Aces team roster includes Emily Gottman, Lillian Gottman, Maria Kennard, Miley Kennard, Zeme Moore, Alexis Wymer, and Madelyn Young; the team is led by Head Coach Karin Kelsey and Assistant Coach Abbey Leighty; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Aces team also has the 2022 IHSA Class 1A Individual Champion, Madelyn Young, with a two day score of 137, beating Ella Greenberg from Boylan Catholic High School by four strokes with an amazing -7; she also won the 2022 Class 1A Individual Championship in the Pinckneyville Regional and Salem Sectional; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Aces team participated in the PGA High School Golf National Invitational, a prestigious, invite-only tournament comprised of the top high school golfers from across the country, in Pinehurst, North Carolina in June 2022; the team proudly represented the State of Illinois, placing eighth in the nation; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Aces team was established by Mount Carmel High School under Coach Karin Kelsey in the Fall of 2008; since that time, the team has been named regional champion eight times, sectional champion four times, state champion two times, and state runner-up once; and

WHEREAS, Under Coach Kelsey's guidance, the Lady Aces team has participated in 10 state tournaments with both individuals and teams during the past 15 years; there have been several great golfers on the team in previous years, but this year's team was by far the most talented in school history; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the 2022 Mount Carmel High School girls golf team, the Lady Aces, on winning the 2022 Class 1A State Championship; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the team members and coaches of the Lady Aces, Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer of the Wabash Community Unit School District #348, and Principal Andrew Shelby of Mount Carmel High School as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
