SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Laura Kay Berry of Springfield, who passed away on March 19, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Laura Berry was born to Donald and Beverly (Fryhoff) Skeels in Springfield on March 12, 1959; she married John Berry in Springfield on April 11, 1987; she earned her degree in Court Reporting from Brown's Business College; and

WHEREAS, Laura Berry was an official court reporter for the State of Illinois, working at the Sangamon County Courthouse for 44 years; before her passing, she planned to retire in July 2023; and

WHEREAS, Laura Berry was an avid Chicago Bears fan and a Jeep enthusiast, and she enjoyed flower gardening; she also enjoyed going on any beach vacation, but she had a special love for Ft. Myers Beach; and

WHEREAS, Laura Berry adored her family; she was a very generous person and the ultimate hostess; she enjoyed attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events; and

WHEREAS, Laura Berry was preceded in death by her father and her maternal and paternal grandparents; and

WHEREAS, Laura Berry is survived by her husband; her daughters, Elyse (Ryan) Berry and Emma Berry; her mother; her grandchildren, Adelyn, Lakyn, Briggs, and Hudson; her siblings, Jeffrey Skeels and Lezlie (David) Brannan; her half-sister, Jessica Call; her many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her lifelong best friend and sister-in-law, Jill McCurley; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Laura Kay Berry and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Laura Berry as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
