SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to congratulate Andre Tyler Iguodala on the occasion of his retirement as an NBA basketball player for the Golden State Warriors; and

WHEREAS, Andre Iguodala was born and raised in Springfield, playing basketball from a young age while attending the Boys and Girls Club; he graduated from Lanphier High School in 2002; he played basketball for the University of Arizona men's basketball team, the Wildcats, from 2002 to 2004; and

WHEREAS, Andre Iguodala was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the 2004 NBA Draft, where he played from 2004 to 2012; he played for the Denver Nuggets from 2012 to 2013 before joining the Golden State Warriors from 2013 to 2019; he then played for the Miami Heat from 2020 to 2021 before returning to play for the Golden State Warriors in 2021; and

WHEREAS, Andre Iguodala represented the United States as a member of the U.S. national team at the 2010 FIBA World Championship tournament and as a member of the U.S. men's basketball team at the 2012 Olympic Games, earning a gold medal in both competitions; and

WHEREAS, Over the course of his NBA career, spanning 19 seasons, Andre Iguodala averaged 11.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game; his achievements include being named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2005, the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 2011, and the NBA All-Defensive First Team in 2014; he was named the 2012 NBA All-Star and the 2015 NBA Finals MVP, and he was a member of NBA champion team in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022; and

WHEREAS, Andre Iguodala is the son of Linda Shanklin, the husband of Christina, the father of Andre Tyler II, and the brother of Frank; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Andre Tyler Iguodala on his retirement as an NBA basketball player for the Golden State Warriors, and we wish him success in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Andre Iguodala as an expression of our esteem and respect.
