SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

705 ILCS 405/2-13.2 new
705 ILCS 405/13.2 new

Amends the Juvenile Court Act of 1987 and the Adoption Act. Provides that in any proceeding on a petition (1) seeking a finding that a minor is neglected, abused or dependent or (2) seeking a finding that a parent is unfit and that it is in the best interest of the child to terminate parental rights, the parent may demand a trial by jury.

AN ACT concerning jury trials.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Juvenile Court Act of 1987 is amended by adding Section 2-13.2 as follows:

(705 ILCS 405/2-13.2 new)

Sec. 2-13.2. Jury trial. In any proceeding on a petition (1) seeking a finding that a minor is neglected, abused, or dependent, or (2) seeking a finding that a parent is unfit and that it is in the best interest of the child to terminate parental rights, under this Act or the Adoption Act, a parent may demand trial by jury.

Section 10. The Adoption Act is amended by adding Section 13.2 as follows:
