SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
50 ILCS 705/10.15 new
50 ILCS 705/10.20 new

    Amends the Illinois Police Training Act. Subject to appropriation, requires the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board to initiate, administer, and conduct training courses for permanent police officers, part-time police officers, and recruits concerning (i) suicide response and (ii) domestic violence response.

1     AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Police Training Act is amended by
5 adding Sections 10.15 and 10.20 as follows:
 
6     (50 ILCS 705/10.15 new)
7     Sec. 10.15. Suicide response training. Subject to
8 appropriation, the Board shall initiate, administer, and
9 conduct a training course for permanent police officers,
10 part-time police officers, and recruits concerning the methods
11 and clinical aspects related to officer response to suicidal
12 persons. The course shall include training in crisis incident
13 stress debriefing, risk assessment, and death notification
14 skills. The Board shall issue a certificate for those police
15 officers and recruits who successfully complete the training.

17     Sec. 10.20. Domestic violence response training. Subject
18 to appropriation, the Board shall initiate, administer, and
19 conduct a training course for permanent police officers,
20 part-time police officers, and recruits concerning domestic
21 violence situations, offenses related to domestic violence,
22 and protection orders and consent agreements issued or approved
23 under the Illinois Domestic Violence Act of 1986. The Board
24 shall issue a certificate for those police officers and
25 recruits who successfully complete the training.
