AN ACT concerning education.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Sections 10-22.10a and 34-18.12 as follows:

Sec. 10-22.10a. Inspection for drugs; drug testing.

(a) School boards are empowered to adopt a policy to authorize school officials to request the assistance of law enforcement officials for the purpose of conducting reasonable searches of school grounds and lockers for illegal drugs, including searches conducted through the use of specially trained dogs.

(b) A school board may require a student who participates in a school-sponsored or school-supported athletic or extra-curricular activity to submit to a drug test as a condition of participation.
