SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
110 ILCS 305/7f   from Ch. 144, par. 28f

    Amends the University of Illinois Act. Provides that the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois shall offer 50% tuition waivers for undergraduate education to the dependents of employees of a State university who have been employed by any one or by more than one State university for an aggregate period of at least 7 years. Defines "dependent" as a relative, other than a child, for whom the employee has assumed the role of caregiver, including the assumption of the degree of financial responsibility required by the Board of Trustees.

1     AN ACT concerning education.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The University of Illinois Act is amended by
5 changing Section 7f as follows:
 
6     (110 ILCS 305/7f)  (from Ch. 144, par. 28f)
7     Sec. 7f. Partial tuition waivers.
8     (a) As used in this Section: ,
9     "Dependent" means a relative, other than a child, of a
10 person for whom that person has assumed the role of caregiver,
11 as defined by the Board of Trustees of the University of
12 Illinois, including the assumption of the required degree of
13 financial responsibility, as determined by the Board of
14 Trustees. "Dependent" may include, but shall not be limited to,
15 a person's grandson, granddaughter, great-grandson,
16 great-granddaughter, nephew, niece, great-nephew, or
17 great-niece.
18     "Illinois college or university" means any of the
19 following: the University of Illinois, Southern Illinois
20 University, Chicago State University, Eastern Illinois
21 University, Governors State University, Illinois State
22 University, Northeastern Illinois University, Northern
23 Illinois University, and Western Illinois University.
24     (b) Each year the Board of Trustees of the University of
25 Illinois shall offer 50% tuition waivers for undergraduate
26 education at any campus under its governance or supervision to
27 the children or other dependents of employees of an Illinois
28 college or university who have been employed by any one or by
29 more than one Illinois college or university for an aggregate
30 period of at least 7 years. To be eligible to receive a partial
31 tuition waiver, the child or other dependent of an employee of
32 an Illinois college or university (i) must be under the age of

1 25 at the commencement of the academic year during which the
2 partial tuition waiver is to be effective, and (ii) must
3 qualify for admission to the University of Illinois under the
4 same admissions requirements, standards and policies which the
5 University of Illinois applies to applicants for admission
6 generally to its respective undergraduate colleges and
7 programs.
8     (c) Subject to the provisions and limitations of subsection
9 (b), an eligible applicant who has continued to maintain
10 satisfactory academic progress toward graduation may have his
11 or her partial tuition waiver renewed until the time as he or
12 she has expended 4 years of undergraduate partial tuition
13 waiver benefits under this Section.
14     (d) No partial tuition waiver offered or allocated to any
15 eligible applicant in accordance with the provisions of this
16 Section shall be charged against any tuition waiver limitation
17 established by the Illinois Board of Higher Education.
18     (e) The Board of Trustees shall prescribe rules and
19 regulations as are necessary to implement and administer the
20 provisions of this Section.
