215 ILCS 5/355b new

Amends the Illinois Insurance Code. Requires health insurers that reject an application for coverage to provide a written explanation detailing the reasons for rejection.

A BILL FOR

AN ACT concerning insurance.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Illinois Insurance Code is amended by adding Section 355b as follows:

(215 ILCS 5/355b new)

Sec. 355b. Rejection of applications for insurance. On and after the effective date of this amendatory Act of the 94th General Assembly, each health insurer doing business in this State and rejecting an application for health insurance coverage shall provide a written explanation to the applicant detailing the reasons for the rejection.
