SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
110 ILCS 947/22 new

    Amends the Higher Education Student Assistance Act. Prohibits the Illinois Student Assistance Commission from denying student financial assistance to a person solely because the person is unable to furnish his or her parents' Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement, if the person has a legitimate reason for why he or she is unable to furnish a copy of the W-2 form. Requires the Commission to review each such situation to determine if the reason is legitimate. Provides that on the application for student financial assistance, the Commission must provide an area on the application for a person to explain why the person is unable to furnish a copy of his or her parents' W-2 form.

1     AN ACT concerning education.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Higher Education Student Assistance Act is
5 amended by adding Section 22 as follows:
 
6     (110 ILCS 947/22 new)
7     Sec. 22. Application for assistance; W-2 form. The
8 Commission may not deny student financial assistance to a
9 person solely because the person is unable to furnish his or
10 her parents' Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement, if the person
11 has a legitimate reason for why he or she is unable to furnish
12 a copy of the W-2 form. The Commission shall review each such
13 situation to determine if the reason is legitimate. On the
14 application for student financial assistance, the Commission
15 must provide an area on the application for a person to explain
16 why the person is unable to furnish a copy of his or her
17 parents' W-2 form.
