| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to be able to recognize and
honor |
| 4 |
| two citizens who, through their quick responses in an emergency |
| 5 |
| situation, were
successful in saving the life of another; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that on Saturday, |
| 7 |
| August 12, 2006, Central City Police Officer Matthew B. Dukes |
| 8 |
| and Sandi Gherardini of Centralia were some of the first people |
| 9 |
| on the scene when a van was on fire on U.S. Route 51; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, They found a physically impaired person trapped |
| 11 |
| inside the burning vehicle; Officer Dukes and Ms. Gherardini |
| 12 |
| extricated the occupant of the van and carried him to safety; |
| 13 |
| Ms. Gherardini called 911 and worked to keep Mr. Robert Murphy, |
| 14 |
| the van passenger, from going into shock; when the fire truck |
| 15 |
| arrived, Officer Dukes helped to extinguish the fire; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Murphy was transported to the hospital and |
| 17 |
| survived because of the quick actions of Officer Dukes and Ms. |
| 18 |
| Gherardini; therefore, be it
|
| 19 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 20 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 21 |
| we applaud and commend Officer Matthew B. Dukes and Ms. Sandi |
| 22 |
| Gherardini for their quick and heroic action in saving the life |
| 23 |
| of another; and be it further
|
| 24 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 25 |
| presented to Officer Dukes and Ms. Gherardini as an
expression |
| 26 |
| of our respect and esteem.
