HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of Cheryl Ann Dennis on Sunday, July 13, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Cheryl Ann Dennis was born on August 25, 1947, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Wilfred and Nafamier Dennis; she was affectionately called "Cherie"; she attended Holy Name of Mary Grammar School and the Academy of Our Lady for her secondary education; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Dennis received a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois, Champaign; she went on to complete a Masters in Social Work at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; she also received certificates in Clown Arts from Triton College and the Clown Camp at the University of Wisconsin; and

WHEREAS, She was employed by the Louisiana School Board and Charity Hospital in New Orleans; while living in New Orleans, she received her journeyman papers in electronics from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers; as a licensed social worker, she taught and serviced youth in the Chicago Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Dennis' clown name was "Jo-V-L", which was an expression of her love of creativity with children; she also enjoyed entertaining people by making animal balloons; she was a fun-loving spirit with a joy of living, which led her to participate in many organizations and activities; she was a Center Aisle Player at St. Thaddeus Catholic Church and a choir member in the church's adult choir; she was a Delta Sigma Theta sorority sister; she also enjoyed exploring the world with the Windy City Seals Diving Club; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Cheryl Ann Dennis has been deeply felt by many, especially her mother, Nafamier Dennis, and the Rev. James (Doretha) Edwards, Theodore (Margie) Edwards, Wilma Richardson, Joyce (Matthew) Marchand, and her many loving cousins and caring friends; she was preceded in death by her father, Wilfred Dennis, on January 19, 1999; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Cheryl Ann Dennis, and we extend our deepest sympathy to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to her family as an expression of our sincerest condolences.
