HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Representative Calvin Giles of Chicago on his service to the people of his legislative district and our State; and

WHEREAS, Representative Giles has been a member of the Illinois House since 1993 and has served this body with honor and distinction; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his legislative career, Representative Giles has been a champion for those ignored or neglected by society; he has worked diligently to further the cause of equality and justice for all people; first and foremost, he has fought tirelessly for the best interests of his constituents and the communities he serves; and

WHEREAS, He is the Chairperson of the Elementary and Secondary Education Committee and a member of the committees on Telecommunications, Financial Institutions, and Tourism and Conventions; and

WHEREAS, Representative Giles has many accomplishments of which to be proud, among them: 37th Ward Legislator of the Year; Volunteer Service Award, presented by REAC Center; Outstanding Volunteer Award in the struggle to prevent child abuse, presented by Pre-T.E.C; and appreciation awards from Chicago State University and the Chicago Teachers Union; and

WHEREAS, Representative Giles earned his B.A. in Management and Finance from Northeastern Illinois University; in addition to his responsibilities as a legislator, he also works as a well respected landscape designer; and

WHEREAS, Prior to serving in the General Assembly, Representative Giles public service included work as an Administrative Assistant to 37th Ward Alderman and Committeeman Percy Giles of Chicago; previously, he worked as an electrical cardiogram technician, an experience that helped to shape his understanding of the need for legislators to take an active role in increasing health care access for the millions of Illinois citizens who lack insurance; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we wish Representative Giles all the best in his future endeavors and congratulate him on a job well done in the General Assembly; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Representative Giles, his wife and their daughter as an expression of our esteem and respect for our colleague and friend.
