HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Deacon Timothy Jackie (Carlos) Butler of Chicago on March 14, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Deacon Butler was born on April 22, 1948, to Harrison Butler and Mary (Stampley) Butler in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, He graduated from Parker High School in Chicago and later went on to receive his B.A. from Chicago State University and was working towards his master's degree in social work; and

WHEREAS, In 1981, he married Sylvia Young and they had five children; and

WHEREAS, He worked as a cook for the railroad, as an insurance salesman, and as an administrator and social service worker; it was his work with agencies such as the Community Mental Health Council, Chicago Urban League, Catholic Charities, and the Alliance for Community Empowerment that he held close to his heart; he also volunteered for several not-for-profit agencies throughout the city; and

WHEREAS, In 1973, Deacon Butler joined the Now Generation Church of Christ; in 1983, he and his family joined the Burnside Community Baptist Church where he served on the Deacons Ministry, the Music Ministry, and was one of the founders of the Man Seed Camp; he graduated from the BCBC Seminary in 1990 where he received the degree of Elder; he later was a member of the St. Mark Church and the Harvey Memorial Community Church; he provided service to all the auxiliaries of Harvey Memorial, however, his heart was in the Media Ministry, the ACTS of Harvey, and the Men's Ministry; and

WHEREAS, He lived life to the fullest; he enjoyed traveling, cooking, music, nature, and theater; he was an outdoorsman and loved to spend time with his family and friends; he was generous, well-liked, and a friend to many; and

WHEREAS, Deacon Butler was preceded in death by his mother, Mary (Stampley) Butler; his aunts, Helen (Stampley) Jackson and Bessie (Stampley) Gaines; and his uncles, Curley Stampley, Freddy Stampley, and Francis Stampley; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Deacon Timothy C. Butler is felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his children, LeQuita (Anthony) Peel, Tonya Young, Aaron (Diane) Smith, and Timothy and Antoinette; his grandchildren, Cory, Jasmine, Jordan, Kendall, Aaron, and Jenny; his uncle, George Stampley; his sisters, Dorothy (James) Daniel and Yvonne (Gloster) Current; his cousins, Ella Davis (Ma dea), Debra Smith, Anita Downs, Carolyn Davis, Kim (Judy) Davis, Kenneth (Cynthia) Davis, Noah Downs, William Downs, and Glorianne Barbour; his nieces, Natalie (Paul) Wilson, Angelyn Current, Tiffany Current, Marquella Davis, and Michelle Davis; and his nephew, Trey Daniel; and

WHEREAS, He also had a special extended family which included mothers, Marion Monroe and Eddie Mae Susberry; son, Shaun Mance; daughters, Robyn Sligh and Jaton McCree; sisters, Eloise Jordan and Vanessa Davis; nieces, Michelle (Missy) Brown and Y'Von Evans; grandchildren, Darius, Ryan, Janyah, and Jerrick; special friends, Don Harper, Stan Jamison, and Darnell Fourte; and the Sligh/Black Family, the Eaton family, the BCBC family, the Harvey Memorial family, and a host of other friends and relatives; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Deacon Timothy C. Butler and extend our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
