HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Richard Nardini will be retiring from the Leyden High School District 212 School Board after 36 years on the board; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Nardini first won election to the school board in 1969; he has served as president of the board for the past 29 years, and even before becoming president, he took an active position in all decisions made by the Leyden Board of Education; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Nardini has been head of the Board of Education longer than any other president in the history of Leyden, providing thoughtful and effective leadership for 36 years; he is a 1952 Leyden graduate, and all five of his children graduated from East Leyden; and

WHEREAS, He has been diligent in his leadership of the school management team; he would continually study information about the schools, attend conferences sponsored by the Illinois and National Associations of School Boards, and has always been a perceptive listener to suggestion from parents, staff, and community members; he has been the chief negotiator for the board, working to establish constructive teacher union contracts; and

WHEREAS, In 1992, Mr. Nardini was honored to be given the Thomas Lay Burroughs Award for the State's Outstanding School Board President; in 2004, at commencement ceremonies, he handed a diploma to the last of his grandchildren living in District 212; and

WHEREAS, This summer, he celebrates his 55th year as an employee of the Chicago Sun-Times, currently serving as the director of classified advertising; he has been married to his wife, Mabel for 48 years; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Nardini's leadership skills, integrity, and ethics will be missed as he retires from the board; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Richard Nardini on the occasion of his retirement from the Leyden High School District 212 School Board after 36 years of service, and we thank him for his many years of dedication to the citizens, faculty, staff, and students of the district; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to him as an expression of our respect and esteem and with best wishes for a relaxing retirement.
