HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Cretora H. Barnett is retiring from her position as the Cook County Administrator for Administrative Case Review with the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) after 29 years of service with the department and over 30 years in the child welfare profession; she worked in the private sector for several years before beginning her tenure at DCFS; and

WHEREAS, She began her career at DCFS on October 16, 1976, as a Social Service Career Trainee; she served in various capacities through the years, including child protection worker and supervisor, child welfare supervisor, Cook County Administrator of Foster Care Recruitment, Training, and Support, and Clinical Coordinator; she also served as the Associate Deputy Director of Administrative Case Review at DCFS; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Barnett is a certified National Association of Foster Care Reviewers trainer, a Certified Practicing Trainer with DCFS, a Certified Trainer for the Illinois Council on Training for Disabilities, and a long-time member of the DCFS African American Advisory Council, where she has been the annual conference co-chairperson for the last four years; she also holds memberships with the DuSable Museum of African American History, PUSH, the Illinois Association of Minorities in Government, and she serves as Director and Membership Chairperson for the Chicago Chapter of the National Association of Black Social Workers; and

WHEREAS, She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola University and a Master of Science in Human Service Administration from Spertus University; her official retirement from DCFS was on June 30, 2005; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we thank Cretora H. Barnett for her many years of devoted service to the needs of children through her work at DCFS, and we offer our congratulations to her on the occasion of her retirement; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to her as an expression of our deepest respect and esteem and with best wishes for a relaxing retirement.
