HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The City of Rolling Meadows is located in Northwest Suburban Cook County, 27 miles from downtown Chicago; it is part of an area of 32 communities along Interstate 90 from O'Hare airport to Elgin; and

WHEREAS, The diversity of the business and industry of Rolling Meadows provides a stable economic base which, in turn, creates outstanding municipal services, educational systems, health and human care agencies, and recreational facilities; and

WHEREAS, Rolling Meadows development, much like the Northwest suburban area, traces its incorporation to 1955 when the Illinois Toll Road and O'Hare International Airport were under construction; and

WHEREAS, The primary early residential developer of the City, Kimball Hill, acquired approximately 537 acres of farmland and broke ground for the first single family ranch style home on July 21, 1953; and

WHEREAS, At the time that Rolling Meadows was incorporated on February 26, 1955, it had a population of 5,162; in the year 2000, the official count for the city was 24,604; and

WHEREAS, The City of Rolling Meadows employs the full-time equivalency of over 200 people and offers a variety of services to its residents, including nationally-recognized police and fire protection, public works, water and sewer services, refuse collection, snow and ice control, and street maintenance; and

WHEREAS, Rolling Meadows is also served by an excellent Public Library which was voted "Library of the Year" by the North Suburban Library System in 2002; and

WHEREAS, In addition, the City of Rolling Meadows is served by outstanding park districts which maintain parks, public swimming pools, indoor ice arenas, and a Community Center which has a public gymnasium and an auditorium; and

WHEREAS, The City of Rolling Meadows is proactive in attempting to expand and strengthen its economic base; the City desires to be known as the best site in the greater Chicago area in which to locate and operate a business and, as a result, maintain Rolling Meadows as a great place to call home; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the City of Rolling Meadows on the occasion of its 50th anniversary of its incorporation; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the City of Rolling Meadows.
