HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in
4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and
 
5     WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Terrence Dashon
6 Howard was the recipient of the NAACP Image Award, an
7 independent Spirit Award, and a Chicago Film Critics Award for
8 his work in Malcolm D. Lee's "The Best Man"; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Terrence Howard was born on March 11, 1969 in
10 Chicago; he graduated from the Pratt Institute with a degree in
11 chemical engineering; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Mr. Howard was deeply influenced by his
13 grandmother, New York stage actress Minnie Gentry; Terrence
14 apparently shared the same talents as his grandmother, as he
15 gravitated toward acting; and
 
16     WHEREAS, He worked at the craft and started his career on
17 the small screen where he first nabbed a small appearance on
18 the series "Family Matters" and "Coach"; he made his official
19 debut at the age of 23, when he had a small role in the
20 made-for-TV movie, "The Jacksons: An American Dream"; two years
21 later, he landed a recurring role in "Picket Fences" and in
22 1995, appeared briefly opposite Richard Dreyfuss in "Mr.
23 Holland's Opus"; that same year, Howard impressed critics in
24 the film "Dead Presidents" and then hooked viewers onto UPN's
25 "Sparks" in 1996; and
 
26     WHEREAS, He won a lead part in the basketball film, "Sunset
27 Park" before continuing to appear in a string of supporting
28 roles in "The Players Club", "The Best Man", "Big Momma's
29 House", and "Angel Eyes" during the late '90s and early '00s;
30 his breakthrough role began with the 2002 war film "Hart's

1 War"; and in 2002, he won a Black Reel award as Best Supporting
2 Actor in the TV movie "Boycott"; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Terrence Howard lit up the screen in the
4 critically-acclaimed "Crash"; he also starred opposite Jamie
5 Foxx in the Oscar-winning "Ray" and played a pimp/hopeful
6 rapper in "Hustle & Flow"; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Mr. Howard has seen his movie roles increase in
8 magnitude and range with each coming year and his rising
9 success is well-deserved; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12 that we congratulate Terrence Dashon Howard on his outstanding
13 career to date and on his recent awards; and be it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to Terrence Dashon Howard as an expression of our
16 esteem.
