HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, On October 16th, 2005, the Chicago White Sox
3 clinched the American League Pennant by defeating the Los
4 Angeles Angels of Anaheim 6-3 in the deciding game of the
5 American League Championship Series; the Chicago White Sox,
6 after losing the first game of the series, rebounded with four
7 consecutive complete-game pitching performances, an
8 accomplishment that had not previously been achieved in the
9 history of Major League Baseball's American or National League
10 Championship Series, and this White Sox pitching staff
11 dominated by allowing the Angels only eight runs and twenty
12 hits in thirty-six innings, winning the 2005 ALCS Pennant four
13 games to one; and
 
14     WHEREAS, The Chicago White Sox have not made the trip to
15 the World Series of Major League Baseball since 1959, when the
16 "Go-Go" White Sox played the Los Angeles Dodgers, and,
17 furthermore, have not won the MLB World Series Championship
18 since 1917, in which the Chicago White Sox beat the New York
19 Giants four games to two; and
 
20     WHEREAS, The City of Chicago and the State of Illinois have
21 not hosted a Major League Baseball World Series since the White
22 Sox appearance in 1959; and
 
23     WHEREAS, The 2005 Chicago White Sox, under second-year
24 coach and manager Ozzie Guillen, won the regular season
25 American League Central Division and dominated the American
26 League with a league best 99 wins and 63 losses, then went on
27 to defeat the 2004 MLB World Series Champions, the Boston Red
28 Sox, sweeping the Red Sox three games to none in the American
29 League Division Series, and then soundly defeating the Los
30 Angeles Angels of Anaheim to become the first Chicago White Sox
31 team in 46 years to reach the World Series, and finally, the
32 2005 Chicago White Sox can be the first Chicago White Sox team

1 in 88 years to be Major League Baseball's World Champions;
2 therefore, be it
 
3     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5 the 2005 Chicago White Sox be recognized and applauded for
6 their accomplishments during the 2005 season, for their talent
7 and teamwork displayed on the field, for their excellence and
8 humility off the field, for the outstanding coaching staff
9 leading the team, and for the brilliant ownership and
10 management that crafted and built the 2005 Chicago White Sox;
11 and be it further
 
12     RESOLVED, In further recognition of their accomplishments,
13 it is the honor of the 94th General Assembly of the State of
14 Illinois to acknowledge the Chicago White Sox fight song "Let's
15 Go Go-Go White Sox", by Captain Stubby and the Buccaneers
16 (1959), in tribute to the 2005 Chicago White Sox; the words to
17 "Let's Go Go-Go White Sox" are as follows:
