HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The community of Dorsey is celebrating its sesquicentennial on July 22 and 23, 2006; and

WHEREAS, The Dorsey Community Improvement Association is organizing the two-day event for the community and, as part of the celebration, a historical book of Dorsey will be created; and

WHEREAS, Dorsey was settled in 1856 by the Dorsey family; it had an active railroad stop for over 100 years starting in 1854, the Emmaus Lutheran Church was founded in 1854, and Dorsey's first post office opened in 1857; and

WHEREAS, When the railroad was operating, it attracted a variety of businesses to the area; Aljets Automotive and Bertels Sales and Service opened in the early 1900s and both businesses are still in operation today; and

WHEREAS, The citizens of Dorsey are proud of the many veterans from the community who have served the country in the various wars throughout the years; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor and recognize the community of Dorsey and its residents on the occasion of its 150th anniversary and express our sincerest best wishes for the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the community of Dorsey as an expression of our admiration and esteem.
