HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, TECH 2005 is celebrating its 14th anniversary at
3 the State Capitol Building in Springfield on May 19, 2005, at
4 which students and teachers from nearly 104 schools throughout
5 Illinois will demonstrate to State legislators and other
6 visitors the vast number of ways that students are using
7 technology to learn; and
 
8     WHEREAS, More than 5000 Illinois students of all ages have
9 benefited from participating in TECH 2005 school technology
10 demonstrations since 1991; and
 
11     WHEREAS, TECH 2005 is a statewide initiative representing
12 every legislative district in Illinois and supported by a broad
13 range of education and business organizations to increase
14 awareness about classroom technology and the role it plays in
15 preparing students for the workplace of their future; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Due to a commitment to improving technology
17 education, Illinois advanced from 49th place in 1998 in
18 educational technology to 1st place in the nation by 2002; and
 
19     WHEREAS, The need continues to provide professional
20 development that empowers Illinois teachers to become 21st
21 century learners who can prepare their students for the
22 challenges of the 21st century; and
 
23     WHEREAS, Schools have experienced a 78% decrease in
24 technology funding since 2002, making it difficult for schools
25 to stay current and placing our students at risk; and
 
26     WHEREAS, Awareness and support must be increased for
27 educational technology by raising its visibility in a positive
28 context and by communicating that information fluency and 21st
29 century skills are valuable and necessary for the future of

1 Illinois; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Administrators, teachers, and students encourage
3 the State of Illinois to provide sufficient funding to support
4 technology, telecommunications, and Internet access in order
5 to accomplish the goals and objectives of the state educational
6 technology plan, as well as district and school improvement
7 efforts; therefore, be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10 we congratulate TECH 2005 on its 14th anniversary and we
11 encourage all citizens to visit their local school, observe
12 classrooms, and thank their teachers for preparing the citizens
13 of Illinois' future; and be it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That we hereby declare May 19, 2005 as TECH 2005
15 Day in Illinois.
