HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Those who pursue the education of our students are worthy of the highest praise; at the end of the 2005-2006 school year, Prospect High School will see the end of an era with the retirement of Mr. David Morrison, Director of Bands for 28 years, with 33 years in education; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Morrison received his formal training in music at the University of Illinois, where he received a B.S. in music education in 1973 and a master's degree in 1977; and

WHEREAS, He began his teaching career in 1973 as Director of Bands at East Richland High School in Olney, where he served until 1977; since 1977, he has been the Director of Bands at Prospect High School in Mount Prospect; and

WHEREAS, He has received many honors for his nationally recognized band program, including a Citation of Excellence from the National Band Association and election to the Phi Beta Mu National Band Director's Honorary Fraternity; he is a two-time winner of the Outstanding Contributions to Education Award at Prospect High School, and he received the Outstanding Chicagoland Music Educator Award in 1992 and the Shining Star Award from the Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce in 1995; he was nominated for the Golden Apple Award in 2001, was Illinois Teacher of the Year in 2003, and was inducted into the Phi Beta Mu Bandmaster's Hall of Fame at Northwestern University in 2005; and

WHEREAS, Under his direction, the Prospect bands have been exceptionally successful; both the Symphonic Band and the Marching Blue Knights have won national recognition multiple times; the Marching Blue Knights have participated in many prestigious parades including the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Fiesta Bowl, the Citrus Bowl and Magic Kingdom, the Hollywood Christmas Parade, and the Rose Bowl Tournament of Roses Parade; and

WHEREAS, Band director David Morrison has brought pride to the Mt. Prospect community and inspiration to generations of students and deserves a most relaxing retirement; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we heartily congratulate David Morrison, Band Director at Prospect High School, on the occasion of his retirement after 33 years in education, and we thank him for the many years of hard work and devotion to the students of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Morrison as an expression of our deepest respect and esteem.
