HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Named for the native elk that once roamed the northern Illinois forests and grasslands, Elk Grove was initially settled in 1834 by pioneer New England farmers, followed by German-immigrant farmers in 1848; and

WHEREAS, In the 1950s Centex Corporation chose Elk Grove Village as its site for a planned community because of its proximity to rail, major highways, and the new air facilities; Elk Grove Village was incorporated in 1956 following the acquisition of 1,500 continuous acres of land to build residential and industrial sections; and

WHEREAS, Under the comprehensive plan, the Village was divided in half, with residential development to the west and a business park on the east, bordering the airport; and

WHEREAS, Today, those 1,500 acres have increased to almost 6,000 through more than 150 annexations; the community of 116 original residents is now home to nearly 35,000 people who have come to appreciate the exceptional services provided to residents; and

WHEREAS, Elk Grove Village was listed in a recently published book, "Fifty Fabulous Places to Raise Your Family" where it was cited for its excellent parks and recreation, schools, access to transportation, varied housing choices, vibrant economy, low crime rate, first-rate community services, and small town atmosphere; and

WHEREAS, In addition to Elk Grove's premier residential community, it is also a booming business community; the five square mile Elk Grove Village Business Park contains the second largest concentration of employment in the State of Illinois; because of the nearly $20 million in revenue collected yearly from sales and commercial property taxes, Elk Grove Village is able to enjoy one of the lowest property taxes in the Northwest suburbs; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the many accomplishments of Elk Grove Village during the past 50 years, and we applaud the resolve in its citizens to continue to grow and thrive as the "Exceptional Community" in the years yet to come; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Elk Grove Village as an expression of our esteem.
