HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It is the privilege of this Body to recognize significant milestones in the history of organizations in this State; and

WHEREAS, The Antioch American Legion Post No. 748 was granted a charter on February 25, 1926, and will celebrate its 80th anniversary at a dinner on Thursday, February 9, 2006; and

WHEREAS, The charter members of Post No. 748 were John L. Horan, Otto S. Klass, Dr. G. W. Jensen, Chris Laursen, Clyde Fields, H. D. Regan, Russell Mead, Ellis Story, Charles Atwood, Arthur Maplethorpe, Paul Chase, Charles McCorkle, S.M. Wallace, Raymond Webb, and Adolph Pesat; and

WHEREAS, The purposes that the American Legion stands for are: to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; to maintain law and order; to foster and perpetuate a one hundred percent Americanism; to preserve the memories and incidents of our associations in the Great Wars; to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state, and nation; to combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses; to make right the master of might; to promote peace and goodwill on earth; to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom, and democracy; and to consecrate and sanctify their comradeship by their devotion to mutual helpfulness; and

WHEREAS, The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic, mutual-help, war-time veterans organization; a community-service organization which now numbers nearly 3,000,000, both men and women, in nearly 15,000 American Legion Posts worldwide; these Posts are organized into 55 Departments, one each for the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, France, Mexico, and the Philippines; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Antioch American Legion Post No. 748 on the occasion of its 80th anniversary, and we thank the members of the Post for their willingness to serve our country; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Antioch American Legion Post No. 748 as an expression of our deep gratitude for each members' service to our country.
