HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It is the privilege of this Body to recognize milestone events for institutions of our great State; and

WHEREAS, The Shriners Hospital for Children in Chicago, a leading Midwest children's hospital providing high-quality pediatric orthopedic surgery, plastic, reconstructive, and maxillofacial surgery, and spinal cord injury care, is celebrating its 80th anniversary on Sunday, June 4, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Located on the northwest side of Chicago, the hospital is a short term, 60-bed facility that combines quality medical care with innovative education and research; its mission is to provide the highest quality care to children with neuromusculoskeletal conditions, burn injuries, and certain other special healthcare needs within a compassionate, family-centered, and collaborative care environment; and

WHEREAS, This mission is carried out without cost to the patient or family and without regard to race, color, creed, or sex; today the Shriners operate the only healthcare system that is funded totally through philanthropy; and

WHEREAS, The hospital primarily serves children from Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Michigan; referrals are accepted from outside these areas due to the hospital's surgical specialties and rehabilitation expertise; and

WHEREAS, During the last three surveys, the Shriners Hospital for Children in Chicago received Accreditation with Commendation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, ranking it at the top nationwide; the hospital is also accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and is licensed by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the City of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Throughout its rich 80-year history, countless children have had medical and emotional needs met at Shriners Hospital for Children in Chicago; they have been given hope and a new life through the expertise of the medical teams assembled at the hospital; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we offer our congratulations on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Shriners Hospital for Children in Chicago; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Shriners Hospital for Children in Chicago as an expression of our esteem.
