SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
225 ILCS 110/8.5

    Amends the Illinois Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Practice Act. Provides that a person who, in addition to meeting certain other requirements, has received, prior to June 1, 2003, an associate degree from a speech-language pathology assistant program approved by the Illinois Community College Board is qualified to be licensed as a speech-language pathology assistant. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning regulation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Speech-Language Pathology and
5 Audiology Practice Act is amended by changing Section 8.5 as
6 follows:
 
7     (225 ILCS 110/8.5)
8     (Section scheduled to be repealed on January 1, 2008)
9     Sec. 8.5. Qualifications for licenses as a speech-language
10 pathology assistant.
11     (a) A person is qualified to be licensed as a
12 speech-language pathology assistant if that person has applied
13 in writing on forms prescribed by the Department, has paid the
14 required fees, and meets both of the following criteria:
15         (1) Is of good moral character. In determining moral
16     character, the Department may take into consideration any
17     felony conviction of the applicant, but such a conviction
18     shall not operate automatically as a complete bar to
19     licensure.
20         (2) Has received an associate degree from a
21     speech-language pathology assistant program that has been
22     approved by the Department and that meets the minimum
23     requirements set forth in Section 8.6 or has received,
24     prior to June 1, 2003, an associate degree from a
25     speech-language pathology assistant program approved by
26     the Illinois Community College Board.
27     (b) Until July 1, 2005, a person holding a bachelor's level
28 degree in communication disorders who was employed to assist a
29 speech-language pathologist on June 1, 2002 (the effective date
30 of P.A. 92-510) shall be eligible to receive a license as a
31 speech-language pathology assistant from the Department upon
32 completion of forms prescribed by the Department and the

1 payment of the required fee.
