SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-664 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides for the issuance of Support Our Troopers license plates for an additional fee of $40 at original issuance and $27 at renewal. Provides that $25 of these fees shall be deposited into the State Police Vehicle Fund, a special fund in the State treasury. Provides that $15 of the original issuance fee and $2 of the renewal fee shall be deposited into the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5 Section 3-664 as follows:
 
6     (625 ILCS 5/3-664 new)
7     Sec. 3-664. Support Our Troopers license plates.
8     (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and
9 applications made in the form prescribed by the Secretary, may
10 issue special registration plates designated as Support Our
11 Troopers license plates. The special plates issued under this
12 Section shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the
13 first division or motor vehicles of the second division
14 weighing not more than 8,000 pounds. Plates issued under this
15 Section shall expire according to the multi-year procedure
16 established by Section 3-414.1 of this Code.
17     (b) The design and color of the special plates shall be
18 wholly within the discretion of the Secretary, except that the
19 phrase "Support Our Troopers" and an emblem of the State Police
20 Seal shall be on the plates. The Secretary may, in his or her
21 discretion, allow the plates to be issued as vanity or
22 personalized plates in accordance with Section 3-405.1 of this
23 Code. The plates are not required to designate "Land of
24 Lincoln", as prescribed in subsection (b) of Section 3-412 of
25 this Code. The Secretary, in his or her discretion, shall
26 approve and prescribe stickers or decals as provided under
27 Section 3-412.
28     (c) An applicant for the special plate shall be charged a
29 $40 fee for original issuance in addition to the appropriate
30 registration fee. Of this fee, $25 shall be deposited into the
31 State Police Vehicle Fund, a special fund in the State
32 treasury, and $15 shall be deposited into the Secretary of

1 State Special License Plate Fund, to be used by the Secretary
2 to help defray the administrative processing costs. For each
3 registration renewal period, a $27 fee, in addition to the
4 appropriate registration fee, shall be charged. Of this fee,
5 $25 shall be deposited into the State Police Vehicle Fund and
6 $2 shall be deposited into the Secretary of State Special
7 License Plate Fund.
 
8     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
9 becoming law.
