SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Weldon Garten of Herrin on April 30, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Garten was born August 8, 1917, in Electra, Texas, to Edward and Margaret (Brown) Garten; and

WHEREAS, He married Vonnie Jennings in September of 1936, in Cartersville, Georgia; she passed away October 18, 1974; he later married Charlene Gillooly on December 1, 1978, in Metropolis, and she passed away on December 11, 1996; and

WHEREAS, He was a World War II Coast Guard veteran; after his discharge from the Coast Guard, he worked as a contractor for pipeline welding; he was a member of the Plumbers, Steamfitters & Refrigeration Fitters Local No. 137 in Springfield; and

WHEREAS, He was a life member of the Herrin Eagles, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and American Legion; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, his spouses, his brothers, Conley Clark and Guy Brown, and one sister, Edna Bowen; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Weldon Garten is felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his sons and daughter-in-law, Robert J. Garten and Stanley and Connie Garten; his daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Paul Horn and Jane and John Carver; his stepsons, Tim Boucher and Charles McMannis; his grandchildren, Bradley Garten, Donnie Garten, Linda Curlee and husband, Jeff, and Angie Dethrow and husband, David; his sister, Lillian Sisk; and his mother-in-law, Ruby Gillooly; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Weldon Garten and extend our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
