SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with sadness of the death of Weldon Garten of Herrin on
4 April 30, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mr. Garten was born August 8, 1917, in Electra,
6 Texas, to Edward and Margaret (Brown) Garten; and
 
7     WHEREAS, He married Vonnie Jennings in September of 1936,
8 in Cartersville, Georgia; she passed away October 18, 1974; he
9 later married Charlene Gillooly on December 1, 1978, in
10 Metropolis, and she passed away on December 11, 1996; and
 
11     WHEREAS, He was a World War II Coast Guard veteran; after
12 his discharge from the Coast Guard, he worked as a contractor
13 for pipeline welding; he was a member of the Plumbers,
14 Steamfitters & Refrigeration Fitters Local No. 137 in
15 Springfield; and
 
16     WHEREAS, He was a life member of the Herrin Eagles,
17 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and American Legion; and
 
18     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, his
19 spouses, his brothers, Conley Clark and Guy Brown, and one
20 sister, Edna Bowen; and
 
21     WHEREAS, The passing of Weldon Garten is felt by all who
22 knew and loved him, especially his sons and daughter-in-law,
23 Robert J. Garten and Stanley and Connie Garten; his daughters
24 and sons-in-law, Sharon and Paul Horn and Jane and John Carver;
25 his stepsons, Tim Boucher and Charles McMannis; his
26 grandchildren, Bradley Garten, Donnie Garten, Linda Curlee and
27 husband, Jeff, and Angie Dethrow and husband, David; his
28 sister, Lillian Sisk; and his mother-in-law, Ruby Gillooly;
29 therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3 Weldon Garten and extend our sincerest condolences to his
4 family, friends, and community; and be it further
 
5     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
7 sympathy.
