SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of the George S. Kapas of Plano on Friday, October 29, 2004; and

WHEREAS, He was born on April 21, 1926, in Chicago to Spiros "Steve" and Helen (Malady) Kapas; he was the sweetheart of the Class of 1944 of Ottawa High School; he received his Master of Education Degree from the University of Illinois in Champaign; and

WHEREAS, He valiantly served his country as a member of the United States Navy, having served in the Orient during World War II; he was united in marriage on August 21, 1960, in Chicago to the former Pauline Sainas, and they spent the next 44 happy years together; and

WHEREAS, During his younger years, Mr. Kapas was both a science teacher and basketball coach in Mazon; then from 1960 to 2004, he and Paulina were the owners and operators of the Town and Country Restaurant in Plano; he enjoyed the art of conversation and was an extremely good listener; he was always very interested in the lives of other people; and

WHEREAS, He was a member of the St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church in Aurora and was a former member of both the Lions Club and the Plano American Legion Post #395 in Plano; he was a loving husband, father, son, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him; and

WHEREAS, The passing of George S. Kapas has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Pauline Kapas; his children, Steve Kapas, Sue Kapas, and Helen (Tim) Erdman; and his many friends; he was preceded in death by his parents; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of George S. Kapas, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our sincerest condolences.
