SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with sadness of the death of Roger Allen Anderson of
4 Burr Ridge, formerly of Hinsdale, on Tuesday, April 26, 2005;
5 and
 
6     WHEREAS, Mr. Anderson was born on May 5, 1919, in Chicago;
7 he attended Morgan Park High School and received his bachelor's
8 degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in
9 1940; and
 
10     WHEREAS, After being a supervisor at Container Corp. of
11 America, he was a civilian with the Ordinance Department of the
12 U.S. Government in Springfield, Massachusetts; he joined the
13 U.S. Naval Reserves, becoming a lieutenant, and was stationed
14 in communications in Washington; and
 
15     WHEREAS, After World War II, he returned to Chicago and
16 joined Teninga & Co., a South Side real estate firm; he was
17 recalled to the U.S. Navy in Washington during the Korean War
18 and was discharged in 1952; and
 
19     WHEREAS, In Chicago, he established the construct firm of
20 Bellevue Builders; he settled with his family in Hinsdale in
21 1954 and bought property as well as established the homes in
22 Ridgewood and Western Springs; he built homes, apartments,
23 condominiums, and commercial properties in other western
24 suburbs; and
 
25     WHEREAS, In 1964, he bought Timber Trails Country Club,
26 originally for development, but he operated the course until
27 2004; he was invited to become a founding member of Edgewood
28 Bank in Countryside's board of directors; he eventually became
29 bank's chairman of the board; and

1     WHEREAS, Active at Union Church of Hinsdale, Mr. Anderson
2 taught high school and adult classes and served on many boards
3 and committees; he was a member and president of the Hinsdale
4 Golf Club and Great Books Foundation; he sang in the Jolly Boys
5 singing group and attended the Hinsdale Social Studies Circle;
6 he was one of the three founders of Washington Square
7 retirement home in Hinsdale and served on the Hinsdale
8 Community Service's board; he was associated with the Community
9 Renewal Society and with Bethlehem Center, which promotes
10 racial justice and social welfare in Chicago; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Mr. Anderson was a strong supporter of the Chicago
12 Symphony Orchestra, where he was a governing member for several
13 decades, as well as the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Art
14 Institute of Chicago; he and his wife traveled extensively all
15 over the world; they were among the first to visit China when
16 it reopened to tourists; they visited Ireland frequently as
17 well as Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, and Douglas and Lakeside,
18 Michigan; and
 
19     WHEREAS, The passing of Roger Allen Anderson has been
20 deeply felt by many, especially his wife of 63 years, Ruth; his
21 children, Leigh (Clint) Rappole, Geoffrey, and Ross; his
22 grandchildren, Clinton M. and Britta Rappole, and Kristin
23 (Michael) Green; his two great-grandchildren; his three
24 sisters; his nine sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and his
25 many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
26     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
27 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
28 Roger Allen Anderson, and we offer our sincere condolences to
29 his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
30 further
 
31     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
32 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
