SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of James "Jim" O. Lance of Benton on July 9, 2005; and

WHEREAS, He was born in Rend City on May 27, 1921, the son of Edward and Addie (Little) Lance; he married Billie (Adams) Lance on October 21, 1978 in Benton; and

WHEREAS, He was a coal miner at Orient 2 before relocating to Chicago, where he retired from Western Electric in 1976; he was a World War II veteran, having served in the Tunisian, Algeria, French-Moroccan, Naples-Foggrio, and Rome-Arno Campaigns; he was an ammunition bearer of heavy mortars, as a member of the 3rd Infantry Division making the first beach landing in North Africa; and

WHEREAS, He was a member of American Legion and faithfully attended Flatts Baptist Church in Benton; he was a good man who was loved by many; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Clara, Beulah, and Audrey; his brother, Raymond; his first wife, Mary Zivich; his special niece, Mona (Adams) Ing; and his great-nephew, Christopher Adams; and

WHEREAS, The passing of James Lance is felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife, Billie; his nieces and nephews; his special nieces, Pam (Adams) Rusher, Jeanette (Booten) Trotter, and Carol Jean (Adams) Martin; his special nephews, Martin Adams, David Rusher, Nelson Adams, and Larry Lance; his sister-in-law, Beulah Lance; and his very special great-niece Kate "Katie" Rusher; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of James Lance and extend our sincerest condolences to his family and friends; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
